CTC back in business from February
CTC@Robertson, its volunteers, committee members and manager are currently enjoying a well-deserved summer break. We will be back from the first week of February - meanwhile there will be a digital skills workshop organised on 19 January (for details, see below).
Digital skills workshop with ABC Open - storytelling with photos and audio
Thursday 19 January 2012 10am-2pm
Come and join an ABC Open skills session and learn how to combine your favourite photos with audio to create an audio-visual slideshow. It's simple, but the results can be powerful. You may want to interview someone from your family or a local personality to add their voice to their portrait. Or you may want to add your own voice to a series of images describing a special experience. Or perhaps just the sounds of nature to a series of landscape shots.
All you need to do is bring your own laptop, PC or Mac, uploaded with the images you'd like to use. Audio can then be recorded on your smartphone and transferred, or directly onto your laptop. ABC Open Illawarra producer Sean O'Brien, with a background in radio features and television documentaries, will lead the workshop. Please contact Sean to book your place at abcopen.illawarra@abc.net.au

Like it or not , social media is now an integral part of our lives. For those of us who live and work in the regional areas of Australia, it can be an incredibly useful tool for advertising who we are, and for creating networks and opportunities that transcend the disadvantages of distance.
Presenter Pantelis Roussakis guides us through the background and basics of the various Social Media formats available, and shows us how to: pick the right social media networks; create a winning profile; build and grow networks; use your profile successfully for marketing; make use of the available network management and analytic tools.
We also look at case studies of how social media has become a highly successful tool for fundraising for various creative ventures.
Whether you are a freelancing creative, established or emerging filmmaker or a creative business owner wondering how to make social media work for you, this day is a great chance to find out. The day will also be a great opportunity to meet and network with fellow screen practitioners and business owners from your area. Participants will be given a full transcript of the day and all the associated website links.

This is a pilot project funded by the Office of Fair Trading and right now there are two places for free training available.Builders receive a free internet training session at Robertson CTC and someone available to assist while they do their CPD training course with Pointsbuild. The CTC will be happy to provide multiple training sessions. Once the builder is confident with its use, then they can do it at home, in their own time, provided they have a connection to the internet. No more travelling to TAFE, allocating valuable business time for training. Now builders can obtain their points online, at their convenience, when they want. There are many resources and new information available for Builders online. For example they can access the Office of Fair Trading website which features the latest in building regulations. It has references to 'Running a trade business', 'dealing with customers' and lots of links to other websites for builders. If there are any builders out there who would like to know more please contact Monica at the Robertson Community Technology Centre on 4885 2665.
