Mobile phone recycling
at your CTC
Your CTC will receive $2.50 for every old mobile phone it collects. Simply bring in your unwanted mobile phone, no matter its age or condition and give it to one of our volunteers. This not only helps your CTC but the planet too, it is estimated that there are 16 million old mobile phones just lying around in office and home drawers in Australia alone.
These phones contain toxics that must not find their way into landfill sites. Envirophone recycle all phones to the highest standards in accordance with the International Standards Organisation, ISO 14001.
Some Phone Facts
From all of the phones that are sent to Envirofone, about 70% are repaired and resold. The other 30% are very old or very badly damaged phones, and these are recycled and their individual parts are reused.
On average, people in Australia upgrade their mobile phone every 18 months, but less than 5% of mobile phones are recycled.
There are an estimated 24 million unused mobile phones in Australia today…
There’s enough gold in 50 mobiles to make one gold wedding ring
One misplaced mobile phone battery could potentially pollute 600,000 litres of water!
So dig out those old mobile phones and drop them in to the CTC at Robertson, or give us a call and we may be able to arrange collection.

Photo competition results
October 2008. The 2009 CTC Photo Competition photos are on public exhibition at the CTC - Wednesday to Saturdays, as per normal opening hours. All are welcome to have alook.
In keeping with 2008 being the International Year of the Potato, the theme was anything to do with potatoes. Although the number of entries was not high (please remember to enter next year's competition, folks!) the standard was very good.
The judge was Mrs Toni Valentine, President of the Southern Highlands Photographic Society. She chose the winning entry to be "Vincent's Potato Eaters and Lale's Potatoes" - a still life photograph by Judy Benjamin. Judy incorporated Vincent van Gogh's "Potato Eaters" painting in her photo, with a silver salver of spectacular fresh potatoes, arranged in the style of the "Old Masters" "Still Life" paintings. It very well could have has a Pheasant on the salver, if that had been in keeping with the theme. But the old gold colours of the lighting in Judy's photograph made the composition look spectacular.
Other "highly commended" photographs were:
Cheryl Hall's - "Hot Potato", an image of a potato peeled in a way to resemble a person in a bikini.
Ford Kristo's - "The $pud$ which fell to earth - the Wall Street Crash". I asked Ford to explain the technicalities of how he created this spectacular image of a flaming Potato resembling a meteorite. It was also very imaginative and topical.
Lucy Palmer's - "The Last Season" a portrait of a local potato grower, leaning on his red truck.
Judy Hollis's - "Just like a Pig in Spud" - a creative shot of a pig figurine surrounded by potatoes which are "shooting" their new sprouts.
Janet Waterlow provided a clever diptych - two studies of "New Potatoes" - some as eggs in a bird's nest, and some emerging from cracked shells of Chook eggs. I understand Arthur missed out on his dinner as a result of Janet's rush of creativity in preparing these photos.
Jenny Kena's entry was "Pommes de Terre" with a fine Robbo Spud amongst some red apples.
Penny Osterhaus's entry was entitled: "Mummy where do Potatoes come from?" - an imaguinative entry of a plastic bag of potatoes (complete with bar code) being dug from a paddock. A comment on consumerism, of course.
Penny Levett's photo was called "Field of Spuds". Anni Heino agreed to include a photo she had previously had on exhibition at the CTC, of children exploring the Potato Pathway at the CTC, which is of course, part of Celeste's installation at the front of the CTC.
I wish to mention our Sponsor for 2009, which was Harvey Norman Moss Vale - Electrical Goods store. Troy Ettridge was very generous in providing a prize of $250 worth of photographic printing - from his store at Moss Vale. Judy was looking forward to taking lots of photographs which she will get printed by Troy over at Moss Vale - Harvey Norman.
I wish to thank Toni Valentine for judging the competition. Although the numbers were not great, it was good to have a group of very good photographers together at the CTC for a relaxed afternoon.
Thanks to all entrants, our judge and our Sponsor.

President's report for 2007
In my report I would like to acknowledge the many people and organisations that have contributed to the continued operation of the CTC@Robertson this year and flag some of the challenges for the future. Monica Engel, our Manager, will report on the events, projects and programs that the CTC has been involved with during the year, which are many and varied. There are many people and organisations to thank and I do apologise for those I miss –
Our Staff - our Manager Rebecca Price resigned in January and was replaced for a couple of months by our then Treasurer Lauren Nield. We were then very fortunate to recruit Monica Engel to the position who brought with her skills in financial administration, hospitality, community work and customer service and a passion for her community. Monica has applied these skills to the operation of the CTC and managed to achieve so much in the short time she has been here. Monica has made a huge personal contribution to the CTC and I would like to acknowledge her personal commitment.
Ashley Stoyles, our financial assistant, has continued to keep on top of the financial administration within the short hours available.
Jane Hall has been our cleaner – both paid and volunteer.
Our Volunteers – the CTC could not operate without the contribution and commitment of the people who volunteer for various tasks and projects. Monica is also one of our volunteers but there are many others.
Customer service (café and IT) – including Heather, Paula, Denis, Josh, Greg, Penny, Cherie, Sean, Monica, Peter, Adam, Jane, Ulrike, David, Sheila
Gardening – Denis and Peter J
Café and Cleaning – Jane and Monica
Cinema – Howard and Monica
Arts program – Celeste , Jodie and Denis
Music nights – Brendan, Pip, Greg and Monica
Training – Maree
Events – Jane, Monica, Denis, Penny, Mat, Harriet, Brendan and many others
Web maintenance – Anni
IT support – Rod and Sheila
Building maintenance - Nick
Business support services – Anni, Monica and all of the customer service volunteers who have helped with printing, sorting, binding etc
School holiday activities – Penny and Jane
Seniors group - Sheila
The Committee has met monthly during the year, helping to steer the CTC though its many and varied roles. (For new committee details, see the contacts subpage.)
Our Trainers. Maree has coordinated the training program with Monica. Karen Mewes has been the backbone of our IT training team, donating additional time in upgrading our manuals and Elyse Atkins has been our very successful MYOB trainer.
Our Sponsors – Our CTC would not be the special place that it is without our café so generously supported by Cantarella Bros who continue to provide us with Vittoria coffee supplies. Harvey Norman supported us again this year with prizes for the Spring Festival photo competition.
Our Grant providers – this year with our received small grants for a number of projects and to purchase equipment. Our grant providers include Wingecarribee Council, Mittagong RSL via the CDSE scheme, the NSW government via Arts NSW and the Commonwealth Government through the Volunteer Small Equipment Grants.
Our Community supporters and partners - Other community organisations who have supported us or worked with us include the Robertson Scouts, Robertson Village Group, the Hampden Park Committee, Robertson Village Music Society, Springtime in Robertson Committee, Robertson Show Society, Robertson Environmental Protection Society (REPS), Robertson Seniors and Community Group, Robertson School, Robertson Chamber of Commerce, Robertson Railway Heritage Society.
Our Customers – including local businesses, community organisations and Wingecarribee Council and the individuals who have used our services.
