Walk the Line stars Joaquin Phoenix as Johnny Cash and Reese Witherspoon as June Carter. This is the story of the legendary 'Man in Black' - his music, his message and the greatest love of his life. Joaquin and June do a fantastic job with their performances of Johnny Cash songs.

President's report for 2007
In my report I would like to acknowledge the many people and organisations that have contributed to the continued operation of the CTC@Robertson this year and flag some of the challenges for the future. Monica Engel, our Manager, will report on the events, projects and programs that the CTC has been involved with during the year, which are many and varied. There are many people and organisations to thank and I do apologise for those I miss –
Our Staff - our Manager Rebecca Price resigned in January and was replaced for a couple of months by our then Treasurer Lauren Nield. We were then very fortunate to recruit Monica Engel to the position who brought with her skills in financial administration, hospitality, community work and customer service and a passion for her community. Monica has applied these skills to the operation of the CTC and managed to achieve so much in the short time she has been here. Monica has made a huge personal contribution to the CTC and I would like to acknowledge her personal commitment.
Ashley Stoyles, our financial assistant, has continued to keep on top of the financial administration within the short hours available.
Jane Hall has been our cleaner – both paid and volunteer.
Our Volunteers – the CTC could not operate without the contribution and commitment of the people who volunteer for various tasks and projects. Monica is also one of our volunteers but there are many others.
Customer service (café and IT) – including Heather, Paula, Denis, Josh, Greg, Penny, Cherie, Sean, Monica, Peter, Adam, Jane, Ulrike, David, Sheila
Gardening – Denis and Peter J
Café and Cleaning – Jane and Monica
Cinema – Howard and Monica
Arts program – Celeste , Jodie and Denis
Music nights – Brendan, Pip, Greg and Monica
Training – Maree
Events – Jane, Monica, Denis, Penny, Mat, Harriet, Brendan and many others
Web maintenance – Anni
IT support – Rod and Sheila
Building maintenance - Nick
Business support services – Anni, Monica and all of the customer service volunteers who have helped with printing, sorting, binding etc
School holiday activities – Penny and Jane
Seniors group - Sheila
The Committee has met monthly during the year, helping to steer the CTC though its many and varied roles. (For new committee details, see the contacts subpage.)
Our Trainers. Maree has coordinated the training program with Monica. Karen Mewes has been the backbone of our IT training team, donating additional time in upgrading our manuals and Elyse Atkins has been our very successful MYOB trainer.
Our Sponsors – Our CTC would not be the special place that it is without our café so generously supported by Cantarella Bros who continue to provide us with Vittoria coffee supplies. Harvey Norman supported us again this year with prizes for the Spring Festival photo competition.
Our Grant providers – this year with our received small grants for a number of projects and to purchase equipment. Our grant providers include Wingecarribee Council, Mittagong RSL via the CDSE scheme, the NSW government via Arts NSW and the Commonwealth Government through the Volunteer Small Equipment Grants.
Our Community supporters and partners - Other community organisations who have supported us or worked with us include the Robertson Scouts, Robertson Village Group, the Hampden Park Committee, Robertson Village Music Society, Springtime in Robertson Committee, Robertson Show Society, Robertson Environmental Protection Society (REPS), Robertson Seniors and Community Group, Robertson School, Robertson Chamber of Commerce, Robertson Railway Heritage Society.
Our Customers – including local businesses, community organisations and Wingecarribee Council and the individuals who have used our services.

'In the Bin' comes to Robbo - join us for a twilight picnic and a feast of short films!
December 2007. 'In the Bin' short film festival comes to Robertson on Saturday 1 December. Free movies will be screened outdoors at the CTC - bring your own picnic rug; hot food is available for purchase from 7 pm, movies start at 8 pm. The movies will be shown indoors if it rains.
This screening will be the launch of films made by participants at Loseby Park Youth Centre. In the Bin is currently Australia's largest touring short film and education program visiting regional and rural communities around the country.
The regional workshop showcases 16 award winning short films and provides a three-day education workshop to students interested in the film industry who wouldn't normally be given the chance to work with film.
"We want to be able to showcase our films to regional Australia and also provide people with an insight into making films, in an environment where there location doesn't inhibit them", said Jed Cahill, Festival Director.
65 regional and remote communities across Australia and New Zealand will be participating in this year's festival with thanks to the Southern Tablelands Arts, ArtStart Youth Festival local schools and councils. Veteran Australian Actor, Jack Thompson has thrown his support behind the festival announcing his role as the Festival's Founding Patron. "I think what these guys are doing is just terrific," said Thompson. I'm showing my support by advocating to the Australia public that this is a good thing, it's getting film out to everyone in Australia and I'm really behind that, " he added.
Now in its eighth year, In the Bin showcases 16 entertaining, dramatic, and wonderful short films. These sixteen shorts then make their way across the country to audiences in regional and rural Australia for a one-year tour. The 16 shorts have been chosen from a record 285 entries from across the globe. A panel of industry specialists and Australian film buffs were chosen to review the films and select the 16 exemplary shorts to be shown to over 30,000 people around Australia and New Zealand in the 2008 national tour.

Oz and the seventies theme night

October 2007. CTC's movie spring started with the screening of Oz A Rock n’ Roll Road Movie - a film labelled by David Stratton as "one of the most inventive and enjoyable of Australian films - clever, brash, noisy, gutsy and uninhibited".
Some of the movie-going crowd (click image for a larger view) had raided their wardrobes for a suitable 1970s outfit, and everyone thorougly enjoyed the film as well as the debate afterwards as to whether a young Geoffrey Rush was one of the actors. (He wasn’t.) For those in the know, the actor who played “The Tinman” or “Greaseball” was
actually Michael Carman.
The shot locations were also of great interest. The filming was all in Victoria. A once prosperous, and very ambitious gold mining town now a ghost town in one scene.
The food was fabulous, with a lot of effort put in by all and much attention to detail. Thanks especially to Jodie and Howard for sharing their Sangria (recipe on the net).
Andrew Jones
wins the Spirit of Spring photo competition
The CTC's Photo Competition has been judged, and the winners announced.
The First prize (the Ricoh Camera, donated by Harvey Norman Computer Store, at Moss Vale) was won by Andrew Jones.
The second prize was won by Anni Heino ($100 gift voucher from Harvey Norman). The People's Choice was hotly contested, as usual, with well in excess of 140 votes received. The winner was Stephen Fearnley. This prize is a $50 gift voucher from Harvey Norman, Moss Vale.
Acknowledgements:
Judy Benjamin and Julie Krone were our independent judges. They did a fine job, and Judy presented the judges' comments well, on the day. Special thanks go to our generous Sponsor for the 2007 competition, Harvey Norman, Moss Vale. They provided all the prizes, and the winners are very pleased with their prizes.
Photo exhibition continues at the CTC, and all the photos now show the names of the photographers (the authorship of the entries was kept anonymous, prior to the judging being completed, in order to ensure the People's Choice votes and the judging were totally impartial). So, if you are passing the CTC in the next two weeks, drop in and check out how a range of our local photographers interpreted our theme of "Spirit of Spring". There was excellent diversity of subject matters, and photographic techniques.
A big thank you to the coordinator Denis Wilson and thank you also for all participants for their fine photographs, which we are pleased to have been able to display.

Help us to keep our doors open
The CTC@Robertson (Community Technology Centre) was opened in 2004 as part of a network of 80 similar centres throughout NSW. With computers, printers and photocopiers, we have provided a range of business services, training, workshops, an art gallery space, cinema and a community café which have all provided income for the centre and we have recently won an award for multi-media excellence. Foremost, however, we are not-for-profit community centre which adds value to the town.
In mid 2005 the initial federal seed funding for our CTC ended. Since that time we have worked very hard with limited resources to maximise our revenue flow from services we provide to the community, and also have sought to secure a diverse range of grants and awards. At present we are in the process of submitting an application for ongoing federal funding through the CTC Association along with the other CTC’s. The results of this will be announced next year. If successful, this will obviate our need for future funding however, in order to keep our doors open to the community, we need financial support urgently.
Where we are now…
As you may know, our CTC has had a huge impact on Robertson and outlying communities. Since opening it has brought many different demographic sectors of the local populace together becoming a social and cultural hub and a powerful catalyst for the emergence of a real community fabric. Nowadays the appeal of country life is entwined with a hope for a sense of belonging and security. Long-term residents and new arrivals, young and old; the CTC is a non-exclusive place to work, meet, learn, volunteer and socialise. We know the CTC has changed people’s lives. You’ll find a few of their stories in the enclosed proposal.
If you have not yet been to the CTC we invite you to come in and see us in action. The story of the CTC has been going from strength to strength with hard work from many people along the way. We would hate to see this fantastic community resource forced to close its doors.

This group is made up of all the heads of transport in the area. The group was impressed with the level of community consultation achieved and interested in the demographics of the participants.

People go missing for many reasons. The people appearing on the DVD such as footballer Dean Widders, talk about what leads to someone they know going missing and the stress for the families and communities in these situations.
The DVD also tells you about the support and counselling available for families and friends of missing persons.
Jean-Pierre Henderson is the winner
of 'Really Robertson' photo competition
On Friday 27th October the CTC held its award night for its 3rd annual photography competition. Deborah Gillham, the CTC's art coordinator, had put together an impressive range of prizes for the three winners and the winner of
the peoples choice award. Awards had been donated by The Three Wise Monkeys, Camera House, Retrovision, Art and Picture Works Gallery Bowral and the main prize
(MP3 player) from Harvey Norman, Moss Vale.
The pictures were judged by the Highlands based graphic designer and photographer Andrew Toohey and Sarah Tahourdin, the Director of Auscape PhotoLibrary in Bowral.
The photos were judged using the names of the photos only - the names of the photographers being hidden until the night of the judging.´
The winner of the first and the second prize turned out to be Jean-Pierre Henderson, with his photos of of Robertson in the mist. The third place went to last year's winner Richard Jones with his beautiful shot of Robertson's autumn leaves. The people's choice was David Young's phograph Misty morning.
The winning photos will be made into the 2nd wave of Robertson postcards.
The CTC would also like to thank all participants and supporters as well as our kind patrons at the Roberson
Supermarket Heather and Neil Tate, who, as always, were supportive of our community efforts and supplied refreshments for the evening.

MP3 player went to Burrawang
- results of first survey
The winner of the MP3 player in our Robertson-Wollongong Transport Survey draw was Mr Tony Little of Burrawang. Congratulations! Tony will be having his grandson explain how to use his new MP3 player.
Warm thanks for everyone who participated in this important survey. We are still looking for more feedback concerning transport, so please take time to read our earlier article about the project and get in touch! Survey forms to fill in and return to us are available for download here.
Robertson to Wollongong Survey Results
by Rebecca Price
It was with much interest and enthusiasm that the first survey results were tallied in the end of June. The outcome was quite surprising. Most of the surveys were completed by people who travel regularly to Wollongong. Of the surveys returned over half the respondees are going to down the coast for shopping. The bus timetable that we have now caters primarily for commuters.
There are no buses for parents that may want to see kids off to school and be back before they return home in the afternoon. The situation for university students is a bit more difficult as class times can vary so much, but their responses to the survey showed that the current bus timetables are not working well for them.
There also seems to be a need in Robertson to provide transport for high school children who go to schools down on the coast. We have not had many surveys returned by this section of the community but would like to explore it futher, so if you are going to school down the coast or have a child that does please contact us to discuss public transport options.
Aside from shopping the other main reasons the survey revealed for going to Wollongong or its surrounds are to visit friends or relatives, to work, for medical appointments and for entertainment. Over half the respondees use a car to travel with a third using a car and/or the bus, with the main reason for not using the bus being the unsuitability of the current timetable.
Half the surveys returned said they were not aware of the current timetable. The main suggestion for a more attractive bus service was more frequent buses and a more comfortable place to wait for the bus.
Jenny and I have had a meeting with Countrylink and they are been very interested in the results of the surveys and supportive of the projects methods and goals. We will be having a transport Expo on the 12 th of August that RailCorp and CountryLink will be attending. If you are interested in being a part of this Expo please contact Rebecca Price or Jenny Kena at 4885 2665.

Seeking
your views
on transport
(Scroll down for downloadable surveys)
The CTC has been successful in obtaining funding for a Robertson village transport promotion and consultation project from the NSW Ministry of Transport Local and Community Transport Division. The project is in 2 parts. Part 1 is a promotion of existing transport services, in particular the Countrylink bus service to Wollongong for commuters. There will also be a guide distributed
detailing all of the existing transport options for Robertson residents including a guide to timetables.
Part 2 of the project involves consultation with groups and individuals in the community with special transport needs including seniors, young people, parents of young children, single car families and commuters living in Robertson and
surrounding areas. The views of the business community are also being sought, particularly in relation to people visiting Robertson.
It is hoped that the Robertson community will benefit by having more information about existing transport options and the opportunity to develop some innovative ideas to improve services.
For further information, or to make sure your views and ideas are included, please contact Jenny Kena or Rebecca Price at the CTC on 4885 2665.
We have created a number of survey forms to make it easier for you to give us your feedback. Please download a pdf form using the links below, print it out, fill in and return to the CTC. If you'd rather fill in a form on your computer screen, please send us an email and ask us to send you a word file of the survey of your choice.

Drawing classes at the CTC
on Wednesday nights
Steven Fearnley's series of six still life drawing classes has just started, but there are still positions available if you would like to attend. For $10 a session they are well worth it! For bookings, please call or email the CTC.
The first class was an absolute delight with Stephen using philosophy, humour and historical examples to make his point. Steve guided us through a series of drawing exercises that tapped into the subconscious and activated the right side of the brain. The cafe served coffee and BYO wine which all agreed kept the creative juices flowing and amidst laughter, serious pencil sharpening and Steve's words of encouragement there were new friendships forged and submerged creativity resurfaced.
