Growing Up on Wiradjuri Country

an exhibition by Dashanti Carr

30 June to 30 July 2022
Dashanti Carr is an 18 year old, 4th generation Aboriginal artist who grew up on Nanima Mission outside Wellington in central western NSW.

The Wiradjuri area is know as the land of the three rivers, the Wambuul (Macquarie) the Kalare (later the Lachlan) and the Murrumbidgeri (Murrumbidgee). The Wiradjuri are the largest First Nations group in NSW.
Dashanti mainly learned about Aboriginal art from her mother but it was only about 4 years ago that she began to include painting as an almost daily practice.

Most of Dashanti’s art is based on what she saw growing up on Nanima Mission, Wellington and around NSW.
Her art is inspired by the dry season, the wet season and the colours of the landscapes from the mountains to the plains.
‘All of my art is based around exactly what I saw growing up as an Aboriginal kid.’

About Face an Exhibition by Susie Woodbury
A colourful and thought provoking exhibition featuring acrylic paintings and hand coloured prints.
Susie has a background in decorative ceramics and printmaking, and combines her passions for religious art, ethnic textiles and carpets, and travel.
"This current body of work is also influenced by my interest in differing religious and cultural ideologies, and my own personal philosophies and values.  About Face is my attempt to process an eclectic string of thoughts, observations and inspirations....the use of bright or intense colour in my work may initially appear joyful, but further scrutiny reveals a less cheerful essence or deeper personal conviction."

Continues to 30 October 2021 From Russia With Love  - Lee Bogart and Robbert Smit
An exhibition by husband and wife team Lee Bogart (Bogat) and Robbert Smit.  Lee's work is influenced by her native country Russia and rustic farm yard scenes, flowers and birch trees in watercolour and acrylic.  Her work is methodical and deliberate.  Lee also has a range of her cards available for sale.  Robbert has been involved in the film industry where he started as an animator and story board artist, graduating to being a director on films such as Footrot Flats and Blinky Bill as well as advertising campaigns.  Based on this cinematic background his charcoal and pencil drawing has more of an illustrative nature.

July 8 - July 31 - Generations - an exhibition of work by Thomas Walters Whyte & Vivienne Helliar and also featuring work by Catriona Anderson at CTC Robertson
Generations is an exhibition of work from Thomas Walters Whyte and his grandmother Vivienne Helliar. Vivienne recently passed away unexpectedly, which makes this exhibition so special. Vivienne loved painting, especially acrylics, and frequented many art classes in the Highlands. Her paintings vary from traditional still lifes, local landscapes and some with a colourful modern flair. Thomas has an eye for photography specialising in digitally enhanced images emphasising colour and mood. He has specifically created some local images for this exhibition.  Vivienne's art colleague Catriona Anderson is a Robertson based artist whose work is often featured at the CTC.

In Our Nature by Dean Boyce and Jane Courtenay
1 April 2021 - 1 May 2021

Dean Boyce, a retired journalist, historian and author, enjoyed a formal art training. He has exhibited his watercolours for more than 40 years. A figurative painter, his choice of subjects is eclectic but his favourites are landscapes and water scenes. He says, “There is something mystical about a landscape in particular that entices the viewer into the frame to explore the painted world.”

As a self-taught artist and pastelist, Jane Courtenay has always been drawn to portraiture and feels that capturing the essence of a person in a picture is the ultimate achievement of any portrait artist.

Back on Track - an exhibition of photographs and paintings by Janelle Menzies.

Out 4 a Duck Exhibition by Poss Keech
20 November 2020 - 30 January 2021
Poss Keech - Painter, Burrawang

Poss dreams in colours. For her, colour is everything; in food, in her garden, clothing and art. After a 35 year succession of restaurants, cafes and catering businesses in the Highlands, Poss has happily reinvented herself as an artist. Eclectic is an apt descriptor for the variety of media, subjects and styles evident in Poss's work.  Despite her passion for colour, Poss often chooses the discipline of a restricted or neutral palette. Bush landscapes and desert colours inform Poss's work, but her love of animals and abstraction are also recurring themes.
